Questions to ask the agency or carer

• What exactly is included — and what costs extra?
• Who specifically will come, and what training and experience do they have?
• What happens if the carer is sick or leaves — is cover provided?
• Who supervises them, and how are complaints handled?
• Can I speak to two current families as references?
• How are emergencies handled, and how quickly?

What to verify (don't skip)

• See photo ID; ask about background/police verification
• Confirm the agency is contactable at a real, registered address
• Meet the actual carer (video call) before committing
• Start with a short trial period, not a long lock-in
• Get everything agreed in writing

Red flags — be cautious or walk away

• Pressure to pay a large sum upfront or in cash
• Vague about who will actually come, or their training
• No references, no written terms, no supervision
• Discourages family involvement or oversight
• Promises that sound too good to be true

Before you commit (contract & money)

• Written contract: scope, hours, cost, notice period
• Clear list of what is NOT included
• How and when you pay; cancellation / refund terms
• How performance will be reviewed, and how often
• An agreed point of contact for the family
